The High Food Holiday: Saborea Puerto Rico 2014

April and May are my “big” food months.  No offense to the traditional Thanksgiving-Christmas-Reyes trifecta, but when I think of the best months to celebrate Puerto Rican cuisine, spring time takes the cake.

Next weekend, the island’s premiere gastronomic event, Saborea Puerto Rico, will take place.  This culinary extravaganza is presented by the Puerto Rico Hotel and Tourism Association (PRHTA) and it celebrates its seventh year.  Saborea Puerto Rico 2014 is a weekend-long feast of food and beverages that showcases the local hospitality industry while raising money for the PRHTA educational programs and scholarship fund.

The weekend kicks off with the Privileged Taste dinner, where diners can feast on a multi course dinner prepared table side by one of twenty top chefs.  On Saturday and Sunday, the action moves to the Escambrón beach park, where sixty restaurants will be sharing some of their signature tastes while an onslaught of local and visiting talents show their skills and tricks at the Kitchen Demo Theatre.  Among this year’s visiting talent?  Jonathan Grahm (chocolatier to the stars), and Food Network star alumna Susie Jimenez. Since this is not my first trip down this Saborea Puerto Rico road (check some of my highlights from last year’s edition), these are my five wish list items for 2014.  Some of these are easier than to arrange than others, but hey, a girl can dream.

  • Two gorgeous, perfectly sunny days like last year.
  • A Zest popcorn soup fountain in the middle of the tasting pavilion.
  • A food and travel bloggers tent with cell phone charging station to keep those Instagram feeds full of #saboreapr
  • More behind the scenes peeks into the great local produce that will be used during the weekend
  • More vegetarian and even vegan friendly options!

    Great coverage of Saborea, me encantó! And I agree, if you are a foodie, April and May are the best months to visit. I couldn’t make it this year, but I’m loving all of your pictures and stories! 🙂 Un abrazo!
